BRIEF HISTORY OF CCAD

THE CANDICE CLARKE ACADEMY OF DANCE (CCAD) is T&T’s premier dance school. We are an internationally recognized and certified member of the International Dance Council (CID 22090) where our Academy can offer International Certification to our students. CCAD is also a member of Trinidad and Tobago National Registry of Artists and Cultural Workers (CO120000079).

In July 1997 Candice Clarke founded a small group of dancers known as The Expressions Dance Workshop (EDW) in the Arouca community, with approximately thirty (30) budding dancers ranging from 3yrs to adult.

In 2000, EDW relocated to the Chaguanas community and classes was being conducted at Edinburgh Government Primary School and then later at the TSTT Sports Club in Valsayn. As the school continued to host several productions, each getting more attention by the national and international media, it was in 2007 the group rebranded as The Candice Clarke Academy of Dance (CCAD) and is currently located in Aberdeen Park, Edinburgh 500 Chaguanas, with over 200 members to date.

CCAD operates with a mantra “dance with a cause” and is internationally known for our spirit of colour and vibrancy that bubbles deep within our Caribbean bones. The diaspora’s unique melange of cultural experiences has given birth to a brand new dance genre called CREOLA which was developed by the Academy’s founder Ms Candice Clarke.
“CREOLA” is the official new folk dance taught at CCAD, it is a composite eclectic fusion of ballet and other dance styles and techniques with a Caribbean flare. Additionally at CCAD we offer the following:

  • Ballet
  • Contemporary
  • Lyrical
  • Tap
  • Acrobatic
  • Jazz
  • Hip Hop
  • Creola Folk (new dance genre fused with ballet)
  • Drama
